WHAT IS PERCALE?
Percale is a woven plain weave fabric. The term describes the weave of the fabric and not it’s content so percale can be a 50/50 blend of cotton and polyester or 100% cotton. Percale refers to the weave of the fabric rather than it’s composition. Lower quality fabrics can contain polyester while still being termed percale. A fabric can generally be called percale if it’s thread count is higher than 180tc.
WHAT DOES THREAD COUNT MEAN?
Thread count (tc) means the number of threads - warp (lengthwise) and weft (widthwise) – that are woven into one square inch of fabric. The higher the tread count of a fabric, the finer the threads from which it is woven. A fabric can generally be termed percale if it’s tc is higher than 180tc.
WHAT IS PURE COTTON?
Pure cotton, as the same suggests, is free from man-made impurities such as polyester.
WHAT IS POLYCOTTON?
Polycotton is a blend of polyester and cotton.
WHAT IS POLYESTER?
Polyester consists of any of a number of synthetic resins, produced by a reaction of chemical substances found mainly in petroleum. Manufacturers use it because it is a cheap alternative to cotton. Polyester fabric is often marketed to consumers as being easy-ironing without disclosing its chemical components and disadvantages.
